April 12th, 2006 - After a rough
start at practice last night, we got some valuable feedback and now have
a very different sense of the play. This is going to require us to
rework a lot of the gags, but now the words by themselves are funny. We
will have practice almost every night until we open next Friday so
hopefully we will be able to iron out all of the problems by then.
I have decided to go into business for
myself. I will continue to work at Papa John's, but this will give me
something to do on the side. As it is currently conceived, this company
will be called Arid Studios and will offer web development and graphic
design services. I also hope to eventually use it to produce my own
short films and plays. This project may have to wait until school is
out, but it could possibly be completed as soon as next week. We will
just have to see.
April 5th, 2006 - In case you didn't
know, shortly after one this morning and again in the afternoon, we
experienced a phenomena which will not duplicated for many, many years.
Twice today it was 01/02/03/04/05/06. That is a time of 1:02:03 on April
the 5th of 06. Pretty cool. Of course, I slept through it in the AM and
forgot about it during the PM. Nevertheless, it shall not happen again
in our lifetime. March 28th, 2006 - We have had three
practices with Arabian Nights now and I can tell that it is going to be
very, very funny. We are close to being off-book and we have most of the
blocking so for the next two weeks we will be able to focus on acting. I
have added a page about the play to my theatre area so you can
go there for some basic
information. Also, you can read
the play if you would like. It isn't very long, but it is very
funny. March 22nd, 2006 - Papa John's is
working out pretty good for me. After about a week on the job I see now
that this is something that I should have done a long time ago. Why did
I wait? Honestly, I don't know. I have also been cast in a one act play
called Arabian Nights to be directed by Josh Jourdan at UTPB. Practice
is to begin this Saturday with performances the last two weekends in
April. March 16th, 2006 - Well, I got the
job at Papa John's and I started this morning. I worked about four
hours and sort of got used to how everything works. It may not be as
prestigious as working at a financial institution, but it sure pays
better so who cares? I worked about four hours and I am supposed to work
tomorrow from 4 pm to 9 pm. I understand this is their rush so I expect
to do even better tomorrow. Overall, I enjoy the work. You make sure the
order is ready, drive it to the location, take the money and come back.
Its pretty easy. The busy work during the dead time is a little lame,
but I was working a very slow part of the day so it shouldn't be like
that all of the time. If you are looking for a job, I suggest you apply.
As of yesterday, they needed to hire ten more drivers so it shouldn't be
that hard to get. Also, you will get a $100 bonus on your second
paycheck and if you would be so kind as to mention my name, I too will
get $50 for referring you. If you don't want to do that, just order
Papa John's and you may be seeing me. Just be sure to tip well!
March 14th, 2006 - I quit my job
yesterday. I will not go into all of the details why, but I think it
suffices to say that I wanted to do something different. I am hoping
that I can get something in web development and there are about three
such jobs that I see out there. Nevertheless, I have already applied at
Papa John's and will continue to apply at different places until I find
something. Even if I just end up delivering pizza, such a job pays more
than the one I was doing. Plus, I love to drive so how cool is that? I
am also looking to concentrate on my own web development and have plans
to try to sell my services to local business. I have a meeting today
with a friend of mine who owns a Taekwondo school in Midland about
possibly doing his website. This is something that I would like to see
expand and eventually do as a sort of small business. If you or anyone
you know is looking for someone to build a website for them, just email
me at andy@andymurphy.net
March 8th, 2006 - Since I got my
computer I have been like a modern day Ponce de Leon looking for the
fountain of youth, only I have been looking for "sweet WiFi action" all
over town. So far, I have had a lot better success than he did. I have
located hotspots at... The
University of Texas Permian Basin
Odessa College's Java Cybercafe
Fazoli's
McAlister's Deli
Catfish & Company I have also
located some around my house and various other places. If you know of
any, send me an email. I would eventually like to compile a list of all
of the known hotspots across town.
March 7th, 2006 - I got a new
computer this weekend and it has proved exceedingly useful already. When
Cory found out that it could burn Lightscribe discs, it was suggested
that be how we label Soulstrum's PreRelease disc. This is what we are
doing and although I have gotten a lot of them done, I still have a lot
to go. It is going to work out really well, though. If I never use
Lightscribe again, this experience has made it worth having. I just
can't wait until we get the actual files in. I have received Holiday and
it sounds great. Now, all we have to do is get Life and The First Stone
and burn and package the discs and the demo will be ready.
February the 28th, 2006 - After six
months, we are finally through with Measure for Measure. All in all it was
a great experience and one that I would be happy to repeat. I meet some
great people and am looking forward to working with some of them on future
shows. Thanks to everyone who came to lend their support. I really
appreciate it and I hope you found the show at least mildly amusing. If
you couldn't make it to the show, I still suggest that you read the play.
The fact that it is so often labeled a "problem play" means that it is
rarely performed despite the many great things about it. Thanks also to
the cast and crew for their patience and for making my first theatre
experience an enjoyable one. February the 19th, 2006 - Two shows
down, four more to go. Despite the craziness of the previous two weeks, we
managed to pull together pretty well. We got some laughs and didn't make
any major mistakes. Of course, Saturday wasn't quite as good as Friday,
but I am confident about the quality of the remaining four performances.
We got some good notes which I think is really going to ensure that we are
portraying the right sense, especially in act five where it was
desperately
needed. Again, the shows are... - Thursday the 23rd at 8:00 PM
- Friday the 24th at 8:00 PM
- Saturday the 25th at 8:00 PM
- Sunday the 26th at 2:00 PM
Once again, tickets are...
- $10 for general admission
- $5 for students and seniors
- Free for UTPB students
February the 12th, 2006 - The show
will go on, but I fear that the soap opera of the making of Measure for
Measure may be more interesting than the actual production itself. We were
due to open on Thursday, but we had a disastrous weekend. On Friday, we
discovered that our costumes were no good and were going to have to be
sent back. On Saturday, we lost the actor who played our villain. this
left us with the uncomfortable position of begging all of the other
theatres in the area to send us someone to bail us. Thankfully, we seem to
have found someone. Unfortunately, these setbacks are going to postpone
the show. The new schedule is... - Friday the 17th at 8:00 PM
- Saturday the 18th at 8:00 PM
- Thursday the 23rd at 8:00 PM
- Friday the 24th at 8:00 PM
- Saturday the 25th at 8:00 PM
- Sunday the 26th at 2:00 PM
Given all of the problems that we have
been having, those first two shows may be a little rough. Therefore, if
you are planning on going and can go either weekend, I would advise you
to wait until next week when we will have had a little more time to iron
everything out. Tickets are priced as follows...
- General Admission is $10
- Seniors and Non-UTPB Students are $5
- UTPB Students are free
January the 30th, 2006 - Well, I
finally have the new Measure for Measure performance dates. For those of
you who do not know, this is the play that I am in at UTPB. It is a
Shakespearean comedy and I play the part of the Provost. If you can, try to
make it to one of the shows. It is going to be really, really funny. I
promise you. - Thursday the 16th at 8:00 PM
- Friday the 17th at 8:00 PM
- Saturday the 18th at 8:00 PM
- Sunday the 19th at 2:00 PM
- Thursday the 23rd at 8:00 PM
- Friday the 24th at 8:00 PM
- Saturday the 25th at 8:00 PM
- Sunday the 26th at 2:00 PM
All shows are in February and will be at
the Founders Building which is located South end of the UTPB campus
close to student housing. Tickets will be available at the door and will
cost $10 I believe. Trust me, it will be worth it though.
January the 19th, 2006 - Well,
school has officially started for me. I have been at least once to all of
my classes so I sort of have a feel for what it is going to be like. It
looks like Geology lecture is going to be ridiculously easy, but Geology
lab may be a bit harder. Political Science seems easy enough, but I'm not
sure about History though. At least I have Ms. Akins. Even if she won't be
easy, she will be interesting. As far as English goes, I will just have to
see about that. I'm not sure if my professor is just really excited about
what he does, or really serious about it. He could be the best teacher
ever or a real hard-nose. Time will tell. Anyway, it is interesting going
to school with your mom also. I'm sure not too many guys have to worry
about that. We are in Geology Lecture, Geology Lab, and Political Science
together. Big fun!
January the
17th, 2006 -
Welcome to my website! I'm sorry about the mess, but come on in and make
yourself at home. As you can see, I am in the process of transitioning to
a new design. The experience of designing
Soulstrum.com made
me want to change this one a little bit, so this is what I came up with. I
will probably end up with something a little different, but this works for
now. |
